Socio-economic conditions are the determining factors of public health at this time. In this regard, the study of the relationship between macroeconomic indicators and medical and demographic indicators becomes especially relevant. Comparative analysis of the dynamics of medical and demographic indicators and GDP per capita for the Western Europe countries and Russia for 1990-2017 was made using the Global Disease Burden (GDB) project methodology in this article. The analysis generally suggests a link between income levels and the health indicators identified by the GBD project. The strength and character of the relationship for countries with different levels of development may change over time. In high-income countries, as per capita GDP increases, health indicators first decline rapidly and then begin to rise. In low- and middle-income countries, the relationship between economic development and mortality rates is rather weak. In some cases, economic growth is accompanied by an increase in mortality. In Russia, the dynamics of health indicators is fluctuating. Mortality rates and DALYs are significantly higher than in Western Europe. Positive trends are observed in the period 2006-2017 and largely coincide with periods of economic stability in the country. The results obtained can be useful as an information and analytical basis for economic policy development.
