The article examines the causes and essence of land ownership conflicts in Crimea and identifies mechanisms for resolving them from previously unused sources. The development of the sparsely populated areas of the Crimean Peninsula went hand in hand with the distribution of landed estates to new landlords and the resettlement of people from Russia's interior provinces. Nevertheless, for a long time the land issue in Crimea remained unresolved due to the overlapping of the boundaries of the new land property with the land property of the old Crimean owners. The complex structure of Crimean land ownership caused difficulties in land surveying. The mechanism used in other regions of the Russian Empire to resolve land disputes proved ineffective here. Gradually, the Crimea developed a mechanism for resolving land conflicts that took into account the degree of land development by new owners and offered compensation for the losses of old landowners claiming their rights to the land.
