Protected areas in the largest cities of the Russian Federation

This paper presents a comparative analysis of protected areas in the largest cities of Russia. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the current state of protected areas in the largest cities of Russia. The total area and the number of all protected areas organized at different levels are calculated. Are determined by their proportion to the squares of cities, a comparison of the existing categories. The functions, significance and problems of urban protected areas and the local significance are defined. The results of the work will help in further assessment of protected area networks, the proposal of new categories, more correct protection regimes, and the formation of proposals to improve the existing of monitoring program in Perm city.
