Acute short-term psychotic disorders still remain one of the controversial and least studied in modern psychiatry. The problem of the nosological affiliation of these disorders also remains relevant, and their connection with the schizophrenia spectrum is the subject of debate among both domestic and foreign experts. This article provides a review of literary sources on the history of the study of acute polymorphic psychotic disorders, classification, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, and discusses issues of treatment and early recognition. The current state of the problem of acute polymorphic psychotic disorders and their connection with schizophrenia is covered, a number of premorbid, clinical, dynamic signs associated with the likelihood of the procedural genesis of acute short-term psychotic disorders are identified.
