Maya Classic culture genesis remains to be one of the most relevant andcontroversial issues in Maya historiography. Archaeologically, it is closely linked withdevelopment of an early Maya city as a place of residence of its ruler, a center of religiousworship and a social and economic core of society. Systematic archaeological studiesof dozens of sites began in the 1990-2010s. These studies substantially expanded ourunderstanding of the Preclassic period in the North-Eastern areas of Guatemala, whichwas based on earlier studies in Tikal and Uaxactun. New evidence shows that evolvementand development of the social and economic, cultural and political framework of Mayasociety are deep-rooted in the Archaic period (the turn of 2000-1000 ВC). Processesand phenomena determining social and cultural features of the Classic Maya seem tohave developed by the Late Preclassic period (4th century ВC - 3rd century AD), i. e.substantially earlier than the formal startup of the Classic period as has been consideredbefore
