The article briefly describes the ideas of the eminent Romanian theologian Archpriest Dumitru Staniloae concerning the issues related to the development of a centralist approach in Western theology within the context of the debates on the relationship between God and the world, the Church and society, Christianity and culture. There is also an attempt made to understand to which extent this approach on the whole is characteristic of both Thomism and the broader Christian tradition. In conclusion, an argument is made in favor of the advantage of the centralist approach in the context of radical ideological and religious-philosophical debates during the interwar period.
