The Attitude of Young Russians to the Dialogue between Russia and United States:Based on the Materials of Sociological Study

The problem of choosing the historical path of development for our state is always relevant and acute. Therefore, the question arises regarding the choice of the vector of foreign policy orientations. And here, relations with the West are at the forefront, since for a long time our country has been developing along the Western-centric path and has been linked by partnerships. Since 2014, the Ukrainian crisis has sharply worsened relations between Russia and the West, led by the United States. It should be noted that anti-Western rhetoric could not but influence the worldview of young people. However, despite the growing tension between the two countries, Russian youth have maintained a positive attitude towards the future of relations between the countries, as young Russians consider themselves to be more of a Western (European) cultural and historical tradition. However, due to the recent change of the political regime in the White House, there has been a clear thaw in relations between the two countries. The purpose of the study was to study the development of Russian-American political relations in the views of young people. The results of the authors’ sociological research provide an opportunity to assess the attitude of Russian youth to the reanimation of Russian-American relations. The respondents give positive assessments of the prospects for cooperation between the two countries. The results of the authors’ research also proved that a significant part of young Russians do not perceive the West as an enemy.
