Relationship of Germany and the Baltic states within the EU and NATO

The purpose of this article is to identify similarities and differences in the interests of Germany and the Baltic States in the EU and NATO. Within the EU, Germany has several main goals in the Baltic region to ensure the best possible integration of the Baltic States and gradually reduce their energy dependence on Russia; ensure their military security; reduce tensions with Russia. Germany has taken the largest among the European members of NATO commitments to strengthen the eastern flank of the Alliance.
