The article contains a brief review of gender studies in linguistics. The author distinguishes the use of such concepts as «sex» and «gender», gives the definition of «gender stereotypes» and examines their functioning in language and culture. All afore-mentioned helps to disclose the concepts of «femininity» and «masculinity».
