Pakistan and its security dilemma in 1979-1980

The paper represents the analysis of the main threats to national security, which Pakistan had faced after the Soviet invasion in Afganistan in 1979. The author compares the different foreign policy strategies elaborated by the Pakistan government for answering these threats and reveals the factors which predetermined the choice of the definite foreign strategy by Islamabad.
