The Pamir detachment: the protection of the Russian border at the roof of the world and management of the Russian Pamirs

The article is devoted to the study of the specifics of organization and activities of the Pamir detachment. It fulfilled the same functions of border security of the Russian Empire as all the border parts. However, at the same time the Pamir detachment obeyed not a Separate Corps of border Guards under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance, but the structures of the Turkestan military district. In addition, the head of the detachment had special responsibilities for the management of the indigenous population of the roof of the world and as the district chief was subordinated to the military governor of Fergana region.
