To the memory of Valery Samuilovich MATYUKOV (1938-2026)

The article provides an overview of the life and scientific career of Valery Samuilovich Matyukov, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Agrobiotechnologies, Komi Science Centre of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Worker of the Komi Republic, zootechnician and inventor. Matyukov has made significant contributions to the genetics of agricultural animals by his unique studies, particularly in the field of genetic polymorphism of milk proteins and gene mapping. His work on selection and improvement of cattle breeds, as well as his studies on the genetic characteristics of reindeer, remains relevant till today. He has also actively participated in the development and implementation of computer programs for the selection process. Valery Samuilovich has written over 200 scientific papers and left 7 patents.
