In the North East of Yakutia in Indigirka river basin there is a mass burial of mammoths, so-called Berelyokh “cemetery” of mammoths. Here to this moment remains not less than 200 individuals of Mammuthus primigenius of different sex and age. In 2007 the location Berelyokh received the status of especially protected geological and paleontologic object (nature sanctuary) because it is one of the largest in Eurasia “cemeteries” of mammoths. Problems of studying and protection of this remarkable nature sanctuary are discussed.
