Petersen’s sketches shows how great his contribution to the study of the architectural monuments of Azerbaijan is. Pictures of both monumental buildings and their details and elements make these works an invaluable source for the restoration and conservation of medieval monuments of Azerbaijani cities. The scientific innovation of the article lies in the fact that the study of panoramic picture of cities (Baku, Sultaniye, Shamakhi, etc.), as well as the architecture of the monumental buildings of Azerbaijan based on J.
