Results of examination of 102 patients with anogenital HPV infections were analyzed. For patients with warts on the external genitals and cervix, HPV DNA was indentified in 90,7 % cases and CIN 1–3 in 19,03 % cases. Despite high response rates to treatment for anogenital papillomatosis, elimination of HPV infection was observed only in 30,77 % of primarily HPV-positive patients. In 69,23 % of cases with even complete clinical response after treatment, persistence of HPV infection in vulva or perianal area was continued resulting in subsequent recurrences. Patients with genital HPV infection should be thoroughly examined using molecular and genetic techniques both in primary diagnosis and in the process of post-treatment monitoring that will allow the frequency of virus-associated cancer to be reduced
