Passenger transportation by inland waterway in the Russian Federation: problems and prospects of development

The article analyzes the problems of passenger transportation by inland waterway in the Russian Federation and suggests possible solutions aimed at achieving the goal of increasing the volume of passenger transportation by inland waterway, stated in the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation until 2030 with a forecast for the period up to 2035. Special emphasis is placed on the resumption of regular passenger transportation by water transport in Russian cities with developed water communications, since it is faster and cheaper to organize river routes for new residential areas located by the river than to build an infrastructure of land-based urban passenger transport, which contributes to increased transport accessibility.
