Vladivostok Diocese Pastoral Work in Public Education at the end of the 19th — early 20th Centuries

The article makes an attempt to analyze the history of the development of ecclesiastical and public life in the Vladivostok diocese in the late 19th – early 20th centuries. The author examines church and social life in the south of the Primorsky region, examining the activities of the clergy in the field of public education. The article reveals the attitude of the peasant population to school education. The influence of the pastoral activity of clergymen on the life of the Far Eastern migrants is determined. Provides statistical information about the church schools of the Vladivostok Diocese. Attention is paid to the activities of school sobriety societies, whose mission was to overcome drunkenness in adolescents. The work of clergymen to promote agricultural literacy among the population and students of church schools is noted. The author reasonably proves that the clergy of the Vladivostok Diocese in the indicated period of time made a significant contribution to the cause of public education and the strengthening of morality in society.
