Local historical (local lore) publications are the most effective means of the educational and educative impact. In this regard, there is an increase in the significance of the arranged forms of the local historical (local lore) research conducted by both historical experts and non-professionals (amateurs). To combine historical experts with non-professional local historians to be a research team is a complex organizational task. It was successfully solved in Shadrinsk where the local lore society in force was established at Shadrinsk State Pedagogical University in 1994. The purpose of the study is to describe the history of Shadrinsk local lore society, the oldest Trans-Ural local lore organization, and its educational capacity. The paper is based on the analysis of newspapers, magazines, books and the protocols of the local lore society taken from its archives. Such research is innovative for both the Trans-Ural region and the Ural Federal District as a whole. The authors prove that the study of the printed materials prepared by the lecturers of Shadrinsk State Pedagogical University in cooperation with the enthusiasts of regional history and published by Shadrinsk local lore society develops the patriotic worldview among students of higher and secondary educational institutions of the Trans-Ural region.
