The restructuring of socio-economic systems is an urgent need in connection with global transformations in the surrounding macrospace. The result of these processes is an institutional shift in the dominant civilizational paradigm. Socio-economic systems are forced to look for ways to maintain economic security and sustainable development in a strategic perspective. The purpose of the article is to consider the issues of restructuring socio-economic systems. The emphasis of the work is on the institutional basis of sustainable development, which determines changes in the market environment in the context of the need to protect against economic destabilizing factors. With the help of system analysis and the dialectical method, a theoretical overview of the transformation of socio-economic systems in the current realities was presented. The authors note that institutional changes occur under the influence of political, economic and socio-cultural factors that create the foundation for sustainable development and determine new governing structures. As a result, it is concluded that in the conditions of building a multipolar world and rebuilding civilization, the institutional aspect determines the trajectories of the restructuring of socio-economic systems at different levels, and ignoring these processes will lead to degradation of systems and will not allow maintaining economic security factors at a level that ensures sustainable development. Especially these processes are aggravated under the strengthening of the role of the geopolitical component in the development of the world market system. In order to survive and maintain strategic competitiveness, it is necessary to take into account the institutional basis in the management of socio-economic systems, which puts an objective requirement to complicate their subsystem components and adapt their functional apparatus to the needs of the national economy in the key to ensuring sustainable development and economic security.
