Broiler poultry farming is a rapidly developing and significant area of the poultry industry, driven by its unique characteristics, particularly the rapid growth of chickens and the ability to produce products quickly and with virtually no downtime. Weight gain and feed conversion play a key role in raising meat-producing poultry, as feed efficiency and weight gain determine the economic viability of production. Broiler chickens possess genetic potential for rapid muscle gain. Realizing this genetic potential for high production performance increases the bird's sensitivity to various stress factors that weaken the immune system, including those manifested by an imbalance in the intestinal microflora, which is known to play a key role in the absorption of many nutrients in feed, the development of immunity, and the protection of the intestinal mucosa from colonization by pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms. In addition to vaccination, preventive and therapeutic antibiotic use is also the basis of treatment and prophylactic regimens in poultry production. Since poultry can be susceptible to a wide range of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms during their growth and development, a significant number of antibiotics and antimicrobials from various groups are used for prophylaxis. Rotating medications can also be difficult due to the limited range of medications available on the market today. Prophylactic antibiotic use during poultry rearing does not always provide significant results due to the development of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic microflora, necessitating the search for alternative options for protecting the intestinal flora.
