As the population of cities increases, the need for energy consumption increases. Due to the depletion of traditional energy resources, a number of problems and difficulties may arise with the successful operation of energy sources in urban farms. Urbanization and population growth lead to increased stress on energy systems, which makes it urgent to find sustainable solutions. Alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, and energy can be a solution to many environmental and resource conservation issues. The purpose of the article is to study the prospects for the development of alternative energy sources, their implementation in urban infrastructure, assess their potential, as well as consider the challenges associated with the introduction of these energy sources. The study examined publications by domestic and foreign scientists and experts, official data from the Unified Interdepartmental Information and Statistical System, and reports from the Association for the Development of Renewable Energy. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the leading countries in renewable energy generation, a horizontal analysis of the dynamics of the share of renewable energy sources in the fuel and energy balance of the Russian Federation for the period 2000-2023, a comparative analysis of renewable energy generation facilities by regions of Russia.
