The article explores the potential for digital payment development among BRICS nations. Through an analysis of global payment and settlement systems, the authors reveal that digital transformation of national payment infrastructures is progressing at a significantly faster pace within the BRICS bloc compared to other countries. Key innovative solutions include blockchain technology for central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot projects, QR codes, NFC technology, and real-time payment systems. The development of digital payment partnerships among BRICS countries is primarily driven by three factors: the complex geopolitical landscape, macroeconomic uncertainties, and the member states’ leadership in financial and payment technology innovations. The study provides a detailed examination of projected digital payment adoption metrics across these nations, along with a comparative analysis of digital solution implementation in their respective national payment systems. Special attention is given to promising areas for partnership development in digital payments, including: establishing a unified payment union; creating a common transaction gateway for instant payment systems; developing cross-border platforms for CBDCs; forming a shared clearing center; collaborative fintech solution development. While these initiatives offer significant benefits, the article notes they may also present substantial challenges. Nevertheless, BRICS cooperation in digital payments represents a crucial element in shaping a new global financial architecture based on multipolarity, technological sovereignty, and financial inclusion.
