Prospects for the potential development of the arctic zone of Russia for providing economic security of the region

The article describes the features and prospects of development of the Arctic zoneof Russia. It states its role in ensuring economic security of the Russian Federation.It is shown how the presence of the huge potential and strategic importance of the Arctic territories to Russia affect its economic security. This development will bring great benefits both from resource extraction and transportation on the Northern sea route, and it can solve social development issues and regions support of the far North. In the geopolitical sphere access to the world’s highways will be opened; in political - it will strengthen the position on the world stage. The paper reveals advantages of exploration and development of the Arctic and Polar areas.
