Currently, there is a significant transformation in the markets of the Russian copper industry, which is associated with geopolitical changes. These changes and the forecast of development suggest retaliatory measures that involve the use of new technological approaches. Copper is a strategic raw material for the global economy, including for industries focused on technological innovation. Russia is a major producer on the copper market, but foreign policy challenges may affect its turnover in the near future and retaliatory measures are needed. Recently, negative trends related to “gray” sanctions have been developing, which threaten to reduce export revenues and an effective response to existing challenges is needed. The article presents an analysis of the indicators of copper turnover by export, shows the formation of specific sanctions against Russian copper industry products and formulates possible measures and potential technologies for the further development of the Russian copper industry. The article suggests a number of directions that are necessary, according to the authors, in order to counteract the growing threats. In particular, these are measures to reduce copper imports to Russia, the introduction of new materials containing copper into the real sector of the economy, the development of new technologies for promotion to new markets with government support, accelerated implementation of digital technologies and specialized research and development (R&D) to develop the necessary equipment and technologies for the copper industry. So far, the use of copper equipment is largely based on the use of imported technologies.
