Prospects for cooperation between Russia and China in the new world order

The twenties of the beginning of the third millennium were marked by tectonic geopolitical shifts. The world has entered the stage of deglobalization amid the growing role of new key players. In this context, the author examines the prospects for deepening cooperation between Russia and China, which has proved to be an independent pole of geopolitical attraction for Russia due to economic factors during the period of intensification of its sanctions confrontation with the collective West. The prospects for the development of such cooperation in the context of the uncertainty of our country’s relations with the United States are assessed by the introduction of a new course by American President Donald Trump. The risks of the China-centric model of Russia’s foreign economic relations, which began to take shape in 2022-2024, have been identified. It has demonstrated its viability and economic attractiveness, which can be consolidated or rejected in the context of the newly emerging opportunities for the country. Optimal vectors of cooperation between Russia and China are proposed based on the specifics of the structure of Russia’s industry and the tasks of its systemic transformation in the context of more general patterns of global economic development under the influence of digitalization and the advent of the era of artificial intelligence.
