The article considers the complex of causes which led to the anti-Communist uprising in Kronstadt in spring 1921 as well as represents the opinions of the direct participants of the events. The article provides a critical analysis of the policy documents and public statements of the mutineers and leaders of the Soviet state, V.I. Lenin and L.D. Trotsky. The antagonistic versions of the interpretations of the causes of the events occurring in Kronstadt from the point of view of the rebels and the Soviet authorities have been presented; their major contradictions have been identified.
