First experience in treatment of choroidal melanoma using the «Cyber Knife» robotic linear accelarator

The first experience in Russia of using stereotactic radiosurgery system with the Cyber Knife robotic linear accelerator for treatment of stage III choroidal melanoma (T3N0M0) has been presented. Stereotactic radiosurgery was performed under conditions of retrobulbar anesthesia and eyeball akinesia with a median radiation dose of 22,8 Gr. Before treatment, the tumor prominence was 4,8 мм and the width of the tumor base was 8,6 мм. After treatment, the corresponding values were 13,6 мм и 14,2 мм, respectively. This technique is an alternative to organ removal surgery.
