The article provides a legal analysis of the State Hermitage’s experiment related to the use of non-fungible tokens (NFT) in the artistic field with the participation of the museum on the NFT marketplace of the Binance blockchain ecosystem in an auction for the sale of digital works from its limited digital collection. The author describes the financial and legal scheme used by the Hermitage when participating in the auctions, analyzes the differences between NFT and cryptocurrency, specifics of accounting for digital intangible assets and the terms of public license agreements concluded with buyers of tokenized objects.
