This article discusses the ecclesiastical reform carried out by Emperor Peter the Great. The author begins the article with the prerequisites that initiated the formation of the emperor's ideas regarding the Church. It describes the life story of the emperor, his trips to Europe. Next, we are talking about the reform itself, which was carried out together with Metropolitan Theophan Prokopovich. The Ecumenical Church, represented by the patriarchs, recognized the Holy Synod as the legitimate governing body of the Russian Church. The second half of the article describes the consequences of this reform, talks about raising the level of spiritual education, monasticism and missionary work. Summing up, the author gives a positive assessment of this period of church history, calling it the period of the greatest flowering of the Orthodox Church.
