Petrozavodsk State University at the end of the 1950s - first half of the 1960s (following the newspaper materials “Petrozavodsk University”)

The article is devoted to the 75th anniversary of Petrozavodsk State University. An important period in the history of the university associated with its internal reorganization, increase in the number of professional training areas, and improvement in the quality of higher education is considered. The article describes scientific, educational, social and cultural life of Petrozavodsk State University at the end of the 1950s - the first half of the 1960s. Particular attention is paid to the scientific research carried out by the university staff, annual scientific conferences conducted by the university students, defense of the PhD and Doctoral thesis by postgraduate students, and students’ involvement with practical training. The author emphasizes the high quality of the students’ research work and their active social life. A very close link between higher professional education and industrial needs of the Republic of Karelia is also revealed.
