Pirates of the East-Asian seas: private business and big policy

The article deals with an under-investigated in Russian historiography issue of medieval piracy in the Japan-Korea-China territory triangle. The author reveals national and social roots of this historic phenomenon and its co-relation with political events in the mentioned countries, coming up to the conclusion that activity of Japanese and other pirates was an important economic and political factor of foreign affairs in the region.
