The article deals with the creative and social reflexion of the belletrist P.D. Boborykin. In his story How long is it to?, the author touches upon the traditional matter: the destination of the poetry and that of the poet. He offers a classification of literary figures singling out the types of casual labourers, tax-dodgers, etc. The main character of the story bears the traits of P.D. Boborykin himself, which enables one to speak about an attempt of the author's self-identification.
