The article deals with the features of the Volga and Akhtuba floodplain - a unique hydrogenic natural territorial complex, which is located within the boundaries of the dry steppe and semi-desert natural zones. Special attention is given to the modern dynamics of landscapes due to the working schedule of the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station. The types of damage caused by the flow regulation of the Volga and Akhtuba to the floodplain landscapes are under consideration in the article.
