The paper considers current problems of forensic expert activity in the Russian Federation, showing their solutions, provides new definitions of forensic evidence, forensic expert. The suitability criteria of forensic experts to this activity are given. Proposals on perfection of legislation of forensic expertise, scientific-methodical and organizational maintenance of forensic evidence are proposed.
