Selection of procreator bulls and assessment of their daughters’ body type

At the present time in most countries with highly developed dairy cattle breeding a linear method is used to assess the body type of cattle. Some researchers use a linear method in assessing the exterior type of different genotypes of cows obtained by means of cross-breeding with improving breeds. Yet it is mostly used to evaluate the procreator bulls according to their offsprings’ quality. In the Omsk Region, scientific research on the use of the linear assessment of the body type of daughters has been carried out in order to further assess the breeding qualities of procreator bulls. Stock breeding aimed at improving the body type of cattle is of great importance for increasing the efficiency of dairy cattle breeding, because animals with a harmonious body type have high milk productivity, long economic using and are in considerable demand on the market of breeding products.
