The article examines the development of engineering personnel training for the railways s of the Far East in 1945-1953. The author scrutinizes the difficulties faced by the Khabarovsk Institute of Railway Transport Engineers in the post-war period. In particular, the weakness of the material base is noted, when one building of the institute housed classrooms, laboratories, student dormitory, housing for teachers, canteen and other auxiliary facilities. Recruitment of the teaching staff was another problem that the young institute had to solve. Thus, the solution was found in attracting university graduates to teaching work. At the same time, the issue of improving the quality of teaching of academic disciplines was addressed. However, despite the difficulties, both problems were gradually overcome. In addition to lecturing and conducting practical and laboratory classes, the teachers were engaged in scientific work. Students were also involved in it. The article traces the dynamics of the number of students of the university. Annually, the number of its graduates increased.
