Approaches and methods of creating an artificial eye

М In this article, the artificial eye is considered as a bionic implant and as a prosthesis. Bionic implant allows partial restoration of visual function, and the prosthesis is designed to preserve the anatomy of the eye. The article gives basic definitions, describes the functional and technical characteristics of an artificial eye. A comparison of Russian and American developments in the creation of an artificial eye is made. To illustrate the relevance of research and development of an artificial eye, we give a few figures: according to the World Health Organization, there are around 39 million blind and 246 million visually impaired worldwide.
