The article analyzes the types of classifications of innovation; The necessity of taking into account the importance of the activities of a small business for economic development of the sector or region; substantiates the fundamental difference between small innovative business, which consists in the realization of the creative potential of the employee; We analyzed the methodology for assessing the prospects of development of small innovative business; proposed a method of estimating the dynamics of change in the ratio of the index dynamics of expenses and the company's value growth index.
