The article provides a diagram of a fuel cell in the distributed generation units. The design of the fuel cell and the principle of operation are described. In particular, the chemical process between the anode, cathode and electrolyte are described as well. The current-voltage characteristic of the fuel cell and a description of its behavior are also provided.
