Subtexts of “tragedy”: “A Cloud in Trousers” by V. Mayakovsky

The article analyzes the possible sources for the subtitle of Mayakovsky's poem “A Cloud in Trousers”, as well as different interpretations based on those. Thus, the tragedy can be understood as a psychological category, which characterizes the hero of the poem. It can also be considered a sociological category emphasizing the opposition of the hero and the world, or a proper theatrical category. It may also be understood as a characteristic of the essence of the hero, the lyrical poet.
