In search of the ways of Russian media system transformation under the crisis of libertarian attitudes in the mass media

This article presents an overview of several concepts associated with the transformation of libertarian ideas, which for two centuries held a leading position in journalism of the U.S. and other countries. The author considers these concepts, developing in the framework of a certain trend that rises to the works of F. Sibert, T. Peterson, and U. Schramm, as different versions of the idea of social responsibility. The author believes that the theory of social responsibility that constitutes an integral part of the concept of «four theories of the press» developed by U. Schramm and his colleagues, is the very rational grain, which should be saved in the name of democratic model of mass media.
