The author points out the importance of the foreign economic activity of the state for the formation of its economic security. Gives an original definition of the economic security of the state. Indicates the difference in opinions of scientists regarding the composition of the economic security of the state and foreign economic activity. Conducts an assessment of export, import and trade balance of the Russian Federation for the period 2000-2020. Forms conclusions about the need to implement measures that contribute to the intensification of foreign economic activity and strengthening the economic security of the state.
