Field supplementary examination of intrasepulchral design of the fifth Pazyryk barrow in Altai (a preliminary report)

The paper describes preliminary results of the field supplementary examination in 2017-2018 of the Pazyryk barrow, best known in scientific literature, with wooden intrasepulchral constructions. The area adjacent to the barrow and depression of the barrow 5, refilled in 1949 by the author of excavation S.I. Rudenko, as well as barrow 7 studied in 1949 have been excavated. The post-funeral ritual pavements were included into the excavations. Dense grave filling of soils mixed with stones, remains of logs, poles, and stakes was retrieved. 7-8 rows of beams of the exterior burial chamber that was intact by the previous researchers were uncovered. As a result of research, abundant valuable information on the features of funeral constructions and woodworking in Scythian time has been obtained.
