An attempt is made in this paper to examine the school education system in Bashkiria in the 1950s and 1960s in the direction of overcoming the production gap, and to assess the need for its reorganization. In modern conditions, the experience of labor education and establishing the connection between the training of the younger generation with life and production is gaining practical and theoretical significance. During the period under review, by strengthening of relationships between the school and life and production, school-goer developed their vocational knowledge, gained working practices and became familiar with the basics of production. A number of positive results have been achieved in the polytechnic functioning of the school. At the same time, in most cases the choice of profession in vocational training was determined not by the school-goers' abilities, but by the capabilities of the school, its material and technical base; specialists were trained without taking into account the actual demands and needs of the national economy; and the quality of teachers in labor, mechanical and electrical engineering and the basics of agricultural production required renewal.
