The political modernization of Japan in the post-war period

This article reveals the historical prosesses that became the basis of the political modernization of Japan in the post-war period (1945-1948). The transformations of various aspects of the country’s life is considered (legislation, socio-economic sphere). The post-war modernization process included numerous institutional changes, which consisted of both the introduction of new democratic actors (free parties, people as sovereign powers, demonopolized firms), and the establishment of new “rules of the game”. Initial measures included the dismantling of the militaristic government (repressive measures against the leaders of the past regime, the abolition of previous restrictive) and the accompanying social processes. The result of all the mentioned events was a qualitative transformation of the political system of Japan, built on new liberal democratic principles.
