Libya's political contacts with the Maghreb countries in 1970-1980

The era of Gaddafi is one of the most important periods of the Libya’s development. Due to the commitment of the Libyan leader to the ideals of pan-Arabism, this period was characterized by active foreign policy aimed at Arab integration. The projects initiated by Muammar Gaddafi were not fully implemented. Despite this fact, the ideas of realizing Arab unity were supported by the broad masses in different countries of the Middle East. Due to the unsuccessful promotion of unionist policies in Egypt, Sudan and the Mashrek Countries, in the 1970-1980 Gaddafi turned to the leaders of the Arab Maghreb countries with proposals for integration. Indeed, agreements were signed with some countries, but they did not enter into a period of practical implementation, not only because of differences in the foreign policy priorities of Arab countries, but also fundamental differences in economic systems. It is concluded that the support of M. Gaddafi of various radical movements and organizations in the world, including in the Arab East, has led to serious isolation of Libya in the world.
