Political reform in the Kyrgyz Republic: achievements and challenges

In this article, the author characterizes the political situation in Kyrgyzstan in the late 80s - early 90s of the last century. Analyzes the prerequisites for Kyrgyzstan to gain its independence and carry out democratic political reforms in the country. Shows the role of mass political organizations that emerged in those years in the form of parties and popular movements in strengthening and developing democratic transformations. The author reveals the reasons that led to the crisis of power of the first and second presidents of the country and characterizes the level of political consciousness and culture of the political elite of Kyrgyzstan.
