The article considers the peculiarities of the political status of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and its political institutions. It underlines that according to the Constitution, Transnistria has the status of an independent state. The author convincingly presents the grounds to justify the legitimacy of the Pridnestrovian state formation, characterizes the state through a system of important political institutions, confirms the effectiveness and relevance of the current authorities by the Pridnestrovian people, asserts that it meets all the formal requirements of statehood and possesses real sovereignty. Further, the author analyzes the way Transnistria defends its independence on all political platforms and in all the negotiation process formats, primarily in the «5 + 2» format. Besides, the author pays attention to the attempts of Moldova and western countries to reintegrate Transnistria into the Republic of Moldova through various unification projects. Moreover, the author emphasizes that recently the European Union has been very active in the Pridnestrovian field trying to bring Transnistria closer to itself through economic preferences and privileges on the one hand and move it away from Russia on the other hand. The author's position is the following: the political status of Transnistria is an independent state as it was determined by the citizens themselves through a nationwide referendum, and in fact is a national idea. Therefore, this effective status should not suffer any change.
