The article deals with the political participation of youth in the transforming societies by case study of Mongolia and the Republic of Buryatia of the Russian Federation. The authors discuss theoretical approaches defining the category of "youth" interpreted differently in different countries, as well as some aspects of political activity of youth in Russia and Mongolia. The article is based on the data of sociological surveys with participation of young people and students of the Republic of Buryatia studying their involvement in political life, as well as estimates allegiance of Mongolian youth with the principles of democracy and market economy.
