The policy of maneuvering by Khasbulat-Shamkhal of Tarki during the campaigns of Nader shah Afshar to Dagestan

The article discusses the role of Kumyk ruler Khasbulat-shamkhal of Tarki in the liberation struggle of the peoples of Dagestan against Nader Shah. Based on the analysis of a variety of materials, the author comes to the conclusion that Khasbulat-shamkhal of Tarki was an outstanding diplomat of his time. Contrary to the currently prevailing opinions in Dagestan studies about the alleged betrayal of Khasbulat-shamkhal who defected to Nader Shah, the article argues the falsity of such allegations. The political game, started with a formidable enemy - the Shah of Iran, pursued one goal -to preserve the independence and integrity of Khasbulat-shamkhal’s possession.
